Almost my last picture/How I beat Harry Houdini.

This specific unspectacular and somewhat boring picture gives birth to a slightly black and a little bit freaky story, also perhaps a bit melodramatic but entirely true nevertheless (you have been warned ).
A story which panned out last August (2012), which I posted in this section as "Bedouin SS nr 2 - Waiting for the bullet" ... here's the link. Link

The picture.

A few weeks ago I was looking through my folders and came across this picture.
I had always thought it was taken in Finland but discovered it actually derives from elsewhere.
To keep a long story short (a lot of you know it, anyway) I had been heading back from Spain and Andorra and was aiming north-east to ride back to Greece via France, Switzerland, Germany, Czech Republic, Austria, Hungary, Romania and Bulgaria etc.
For days I had been suffering extreme pains in my abdomen so I abandoned my initial plans near Switzerland and headed to Ancona port on the east coast of Italy, intending to get on a ferry back to Greece (and a hospital).
Alas, I didn't quite make it and ended up lying on a park bench in the port area of Ancona and then in the Ancona State hospital, apparently with 2-3 hours left on my "clock". It seems I had an abdomen full of Peritonitis requiring immediate surgery (I'll skip the why's). Anyhow, I ended up there on a wonderful 2-week vacation.

This picture was painfully taken on the road between Bologna and Ancona, just past the massive Barilla Spaghetti factory (the previous picture I had taken - see below) and was the last picture taken before I ended up in hospital.
Now here's the freaky part - after examining the sequence of pictures in the folder it suddenly hit me that this could very easily have been my LAST picture ... ever!
Now, the point of this post ... suddenly the pic becomes pretty spooky/eerie right? Or is it just me?

Talk about "dying for a Spaghetti Bolognaise"

The Barilla factory.

Now, you'll ask yourselves, "where does Harry Houdini - the great magician and escape artist" fit into all this and how did I beat him?
Well sadly, Houdini didn't escape from Peritonitis ...
I did!

Looking at the pictures I can see how "close" you came, you were a mere shadow of your former self!!

My dad "escaped" Peritonitis about 30 years ago and I remember the pain he went through, Glad you're still here to whinge about the pain.

Thanks guys.

I more than covered this incident in the original post but just thought that the pic looked kinda spooky (in hindsight) given that it is a shadow (ghost? ) and also the timing of when it was actually taken (like I said, it could very easily have been my last).

Love how your finger over the lens formed a veil descending from above your shadow. Ride safe
